PROGRAM OUTLINE OF THE TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE TOUR
09 august (DAY 1)
Arrive according to your own travel arrangements in Vigo (airport code VGO), the main gateway to southern Galicia. Upon arrival, a Galisacra representative will greet you and arrange the transfer to your hotel. Later, join Galisacra and our local guide for a tour through Baiona, followed by a welcome dinner and an introduction to the journey ahead.
10 AUGUST (Day 2)
Start your day with a private transfer to the Pazo Pegullal, a majestic Galician manor house whose origins date back to the 18th century renowned for its traditional architecture, serene camellia gardens, and surrounding vineyards. Enjoy a guided tour of the Pazo, learning about its history and the region’s heritage, followed by a private wine tasting featuring select local vintages.
In the afternoon, continue to the historic town of Tui, a settlement with roots stretching back to Roman times and whose impressive Cathedral of Santa María was first constructed in the early 12th century and consecrated in 1225. The cathedral’s fortified appearance, blending Romanesque and Gothic styles, reflects its historical role as both a spiritual center and defensive stronghold overlooking the Minho River on the border with Portugal. Pause to enjoy a leisurely lunch in Tui, sampling authentic local cuisine, before returning in comfort to Baiona in the early evening.
The evening is yours to relax and explore at your own pace, with dinner recommendations from Galisacra to discover the best of Galician flavors.
11 AUGUST (DAY 3)
After breakfast, your guide awaits you for a private transfer that takes you to Vigo, where a remarkable maritime experience begins. Step aboard a boat and glide over the calm, shimmering waters of the Ría de Vigo to visit a traditional batea — a floating mussel farm suspended on wooden rafts, rooted in centuries-old techniques that define Galicia’s seafood heritage. Here, you’ll see how mussels are cultivated, learn the rhythms of the sea that shape regional life, and enjoy freshly caught mussels served straight from the water, paired with crisp Albariño wine and framed by breathtaking views of the ria — a sensory experience that celebrates the ocean’s bounty in its purest form.
Back on shore, a guided walking tour of Vigo brings the city’s rich past to life. Wander through narrow cobblestone streets where legends linger around every corner, and ascend to the Celtic fortress of O Castro, whose origins trace back over 2,000 years to pre-Roman times. From this ancient stronghold you will enjoy panoramic views of the bay and city, connecting you visually and emotionally to the deep history of this maritime gateway.
For lunch, explore Vigo’s famous tapas district at your own pace — follow Galisacra’s local recommendations to discover lively bars and hidden gems where you can dive into authentic Galician flavors, from octopus to empanada, each dish paired with regional wines and shared like storytellers around a table.
In the late afternoon, leave the vibrant coast behind and journey into the wild heart of Galicia — the lands of the wolf. As you ascend toward Fornelos de Montes and the forests of A Lama, you enter a region where wolves still roam the hills, moving through ancient woodlands and misty valleys, a rare glimpse of Galicia’s untamed wildlife. Here, you’ll check into your exclusive boutique villa hotel, a secluded retreat that reflects the spirit of Galicia’s rural soul.
After check-in, our local collaborators at Oitaven Life will pick you up and take you into the heart of the area for a gastronomical feast at a place deeply rooted in local life and known for its carefully sourced ingredients and straightforward Galician cooking. Sharing the table here is about more than eating well — it’s about easing into the rhythm of the place, enjoying good conversation, and setting the tone for an evening shaped by local tradition and lived experience, before the night’s highlight unfolds.
As dusk settles, the sounds of celebration begin. Head into the nearby village for the Verbena de San Lorenzo, a traditional Spanish summer festival that feels as alive today as it did generations ago. Dance with locals to the rhythms of traditional Galician music, taste authentic regional delicacies, and soak up the magical atmosphere under a sky full of stars — far from tourist crowds, where every moment feels intimate, genuine, and unmistakably Galician.
12 AUGUST (Day 4)
After breakfast at your boutique village hotel in Gaxate, your host — a local — introduces you to the village. Known for its Indianos villas, grand houses built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by emigrants who made their fortunes in America and Lisbon, Gaxate tells a story of Galicia’s past, ambition, and enduring cultural pride. Your host shares the hidden legends and history of the area, bringing these old homes and their stories to life.
For lunch, gather at Casa Nagarola, a historic local estate where the table is set to celebrate the region’s food and wine. It’s a relaxed, generous meal meant to be shared, marking a perfect pause in the day before continuing the journey.
After lunch, you leave the villages behind and ascend by 4×4 into the Sierra do Suído, a wild and rugged region of forests, hills, and valleys that remains almost untouched by tourism. Here, away from roads and crowds, the landscape opens up to breathtaking vistas, where the wind, the trees, and the silence make you feel like you are stepping back in time. This is your stage for the day’s true highlight: the total eclipse. From a quiet hilltop, surrounded only by nature, local guides, and your small group, you witness the sun disappear behind the moon, the sky darken, and the stars emerge above Galicia’s wild hills — a moment that feels entirely yours, intimate and unforgettable.
As the eclipse passes, enjoy an authentic local picnic on the hillside: fresh bread, cured ham, chorizo, cheese, and wine, prepared by local hands and shared as it has been for generations. No frills, no tourist menus — just the real flavors of Galicia, eaten while taking in the extraordinary landscape around you.
The evening continues under the stars, with the Perseids meteor shower, or “Tears of San Lorenzo”, sweeping across the sky. Guided by a local connoisseur of the night sky, you experience the cosmos as it has been seen for centuries, far from light pollution or crowds, in an atmosphere that is quiet, magical, and utterly authentic.
This is where the true value lies: in the silence of the hills, the realness of the food, the stories of the land, and the intimate spectacle of the eclipse — a rare moment where authenticity becomes the ultimate luxury and your Total Solar Eclipse Tour a once-in-a-lifetime luxury astronomical journey.
AUGUST 13 (Day 5)
After yesterday’s unforgettable eclipse, your journey continues without stepping down from the extraordinary. After breakfast, you set out for the hills of O Ribeiro, Galicia’s historic wine region, in a small convoy of 4x4s that allows you to reach the hidden corners of this landscape, far from tourist roads. The ride itself is part of the experience: rolling vineyards, and winding country lanes unfold around you, each turn revealing breathtaking views of the Melón region and the charming village of Faro de Avión — a true hidden gem. Here, the scenery feels timeless, a place where every hill, every stone, every vineyard has a story to tell.
Your first stop is Ribadavia, a medieval town steeped in Jewish heritage and history, with narrow streets, fortified walls, and a central square that invites slow exploration. Wander with your guide through the town’s storied corners, learning how centuries of culture and tradition shaped this remarkable place.
We continue the journey with a visit to the Wine Museum, where Galicia’s centuries-old viticulture comes alive, connecting soil, climate, and human ingenuity in a narrative that only this region can tell. Followed by lunch at Sabrego Restaurante, adjacent to the Wine Museum, where local flavors and fresh, simple ingredients reflect the heart of O Ribeiro, offering a relaxed and authentic pause before continuing your exploration.
In ther afternoon, you visit Bodegas Casal de Armán, one of Galicia’s most celebrated wineries, for a private wine tasting. Sample exquisite wines, each with its own story, and enjoy the chance to savor them in the very place where they are made, surrounded by the vineyards themselves — a perfect immersion in O Ribeiro’s terroir and craft.
The day reaches its grand finish at Casa Nagarola, a historic estate where a celebratory dinner awaits. Here, you eat like masters: generous local dishes, traditional preparations, and wines paired perfectly — everything is authentic, thoughtfully prepared, and served in a setting that captures the essence of Galician hospitality. Laughter, stories, and flavors combine to make this meal as memorable as the landscapes and wines you’ve discovered throughout the day.
Finally, after an extraordinary day of history, wine, and culture, you return to your boutique hotel.
